Genuine question regarding this wiki : Should these terms be defined by their own pages or should we link to the wikipedia definition ?

This wiki is about Consumer rights protection. In the case of Digital Consumer rights protection, there is often the need for the usage of specific terms like LAN and others, therefore the need for their definition. Should their definition be made by pages on this wiki, like this page, or should we instead link to wikipedia ? Im asking because by itself, a LAN is not problematic, thus i dont see the point of the existance of this page. We dont want to become a general wiki ; wikiepdia already exists. the CRW has its own purpose and i dont think pages like LAN should exist...

I personally don't find it needed. Generally these types of articles should only exist if there is a specific definition needed for the consumer rights context. I'll leave it open to other opinions, if anyone else has an argument to why it should exist, maybe written differently. 📎 JackFromWisconsin (talk | contribs) 20:45, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

1) Re: Wikipedia. Where just a definition is needed, I think wikipedia links make sense. However, the current system where wikipedia links look identical to consumerrights.wiki links is confusing. (And potentially dangerous if other wiki links look the same).

However, just because a stub looks like a definition doesn't mean that is all that could/should be there. I think the question should be is this a topic that could make a good consumerwiki article.

2) I think an article on LAN could make sense on consumerwiki, depending on how one interprets the purpose. (I plan to ask for clarification on that.) If consumerwiki only points out problems, and doesn't deal at all with helping people understand the alternatives, then I am not sure whether a LAN article makes sense.

If, on the other hand, we want to help people gain the perspective on what are the alternatives to centralized control, Cloud everything, Software as a service, IoT, etc. Then I think LAN makes a lot of sense, as a spot to give pointers to other solutions.

To own your own devices, you need to control them. Part of that control can be controlling your own servers (Self-hosting), controlling your router(s), controlling your firewall, controlling your DNS, etc. This could be a place to give a very high-level view of alternatives to cloud everything, with pointers/links to where the interested can find more information. LAN is a cloud that you own.
